ICE SKATING AND ICE HOCKEY IN ZERMATT

The natural and artificial ice rinks in the centre of the village offer free fun on the ice from December to the end of February. This is where the youngest ice sport fans get together, to play at being an ice princess or to compete against each other at ice hockey. And grown-ups are also welcome. The ice rinks can be rented by the hour. You can also come and watch the training sessions of the local ice hockey club, EHC Zermatt.

CURLING AND ICE STOCK SPORT

The 16 rinks on the natural ice rink in Zermatt simply invite you to try your hand at curling and ice-stick shooting. Don't worry: You don't need to bring the equipment with you like our Scottish guests had to do many years ago in the Twenties. They brought granite stones with them in their luggage to make sure that they wouldn't have to go without the curling fun with the Matterhorn as a backdrop.

    ZERMATT MARATHON

    The "Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon" leads through the deepest valley in Switzerland from St. Niklaus to the Riffelberg on the Gornergrat. This is one of the most demanding marathon routes in Europe.

    The Swiss federal holiday, the 1st of August, is celebrated in the communities of the Upper Mattertal - especially in Zermatt. In Matterhorndorf much is offered: street party, music and speeches.

    The Folkore Festival in August transforms Zermatt into a colorful, cheerful backdrop of traditional costumes, dances and music and is all about tradition. The highlight is the big parade through Zermatt.
